Make Your Own Texas Christmas Ornaments

Make your own Texas Christmas tree ornament our of everyday items! All you need is an old fashioned metal coat hanger, needle nose pliers, hot glue sticks and glue gun, hemp string (or other rustic looking twine), and about an inch long piece of masking tape or duct tape. Use your pliers to cut the hanger and then straighten it, shape it into a TX shape (use a map for reference); after shaping, cut the excess wire off but leave the ends loose for now. Using the glue gun attach the string and start winding and gluing round and round, applying the hot glue in a straight line for about a one to one-and-a-half inch sections and then winding the string, so that your glue doesn't dry before you wrap the string around. When you get close to covering the whole state shape, approximate how much string you'll need to finish it off and then measure it out and cut your string. Then you can tape the ends of the wire Texas shape together with your small strip of tape, and then proceed to cover the remainder of the shape with glue and then wrap with string. Finish it off with a red ribbon for hanging it on the tree, and also if you choose, a red bow for adding color to the ornament. My original idea was to put a sprig of fake Bluebonnets where the red bow is, but I did not have any on hand and so I used what I had, but that could be another option-- Texas Bluebonnets with a red bow!
