Handmade Felt Garland Chain

This garland chain is easy to make, and a relaxing project to work on while watching TV (um... listening to TV) or visiting with a friend. To make enough garland for a 7' Christmas tree here is what you'll need:

11 Sheets of 9"x12" felt (whatever colors you wish)
Sewing needle
Cotton multipurpose thread (multiple colors)
Scissors
Ruler

First you will measure your felt sheets and mark them every 1/2 inch. You will be cutting the whole 12" long piece of felt into 1/2"x 9" strips.

Fold the 1/2"x 9" strips in half and snip along the fold, making two 1/2" x 4.5" strips. These will be your chains.

Thread your needle.
Make a loop out of the 1/2" x 4.5" felt strip.
Overlapping the ends about 1/3 inch,  sew an "X" across fastening the overlapping ends together.
Sew two extra stitches to make it secure, and tie off.

Follow up by feeding another strip of felt through your existing chain; stitch new loop together in the same way as the first. Keep adding chains to your felt garland.

When you're all finished it should look something like this

Merry Christmas! Happy Sewing!
