Beth's Basic Chap Stick Recipe

2 Tbsp shea butter (organic, raw)
2 Tbsp coconut oil
2 Tbsp high grade bees wax (I used white)
20 drops of essential oils (whatever flavor you like, I used Lavender and peppermint in one batch, another I used tangerine, peppermint and lavender (several drops of each oil- all together around 20-25)). You can adjust this according to how strong you like your chap stick flavor to be. Keep in mind that some oils, (cinnamon, clove, oregano, mint, citrus) may sting your lips if they are too concentrated).

You will need a small pot (with about 2 cups of water in the bottom), a ring from a wide mouth canning jar lid (metal); a glass 2 cup liquid measuring cup, an eye dropper (or turkey baster), and 12 or so empty chap stick tubes/lids.

Place your pot with water in it on the stove. Place the canning jar ring in the water to stand as a platform for your glass measuring cup. Place your shea butter, coconut oil, and bees wax in the glass measuring cup. Place in the water sitting the glass cup on the metal ring to elevate the glass cup and keep it from sitting directly on the bottom of the pot. The measuring cup should be partially submerged in water at this point (not so much that it could splash over the top though). The idea is for the water to warm up the glass and melt the ingredients in it. DO NOT add your essential oils yet.

Turn the burner to medium low and let the mixture in the glass cup melt together, stirring occasionally. This process takes 5-10 minutes. The water may boil, that is okay. Add more water if needed.

After the coconut oil, shea butter, and bees wax have melted, turn the heat to very low and set the pot off of the burner for a minute or two. Stir in your drops of essential oil. Set pot back on the burner (keeping on very low), and using the eye dropper (or other desired utensil) start filling your chap stick tubes and setting them aside to harden.  Once you have filled them all, reserve the extra chap stick, and top off the cooled ones carefully. Let cool and you are done- just snap on the tops.

Cheers to healthy lips!
