A Myrrhful Morning

Reading morning devotions yesterday I came across something that was interesting to me. Those of you who are familiar with the story of Esther in the Bible, know about how the girls who were selected to go before the king had to go through a one year beautifying regimen. Part of this consisted of using ancient cosmetics, and perfumes (essences of plants and flowers). I had missed one other detail before now though, the use of myrrh. Esther chapter 2 verse 12 says, "Before a girl's turn came to go to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months with OIL OF MYRRH, and six with perfumes and cosmetics."

Now that is a wonderful insight. I'm going to order some of that stuff!
