Friends and family, we are officially moved! Last weekend I finished up moving odds and ends from old house to cabin/storage at new house, leaving only our mattress and a few things that I forgot in a cabinet. The kids and I then cleaned the place from head to toe (but apparently not that cabinet with the few things I forgot. LOL!) the night before heading off to a week of summer camp at Camp His Way in Zavala, Texas, with the church group. We got back from camp yesterday evening, and found that Waylon and his dad had moved the last items. The washer and dryer were hooked up just in time for washing the mountain of dirty laundry that we brought home from camp yesterday. We four had dinner and spent the night in the cabin together for the first time last night; we will continue to live in the cabin until the house is complete. Resting up, and doing away with laundry mountain has been the continued process today.

With a youth beach trip two Saturdays ago, a 70 year wedding anniversary party for Waylon's grandparents which we celebrated last weekend, camp, and moving, progress on the house has been somewhat slow lately. Last week, Waylon and his dad worked on pulling out old insulation and cleaning the attic for a couple of days. We decided that it would be best to use spray in insulation, and are progressing toward having the areas clean that need to be sprayed. After that we will re-group and decide which steps to take next in our renovation project.

A couple of weeks ago we ordered an expensive adhesive removal product which is specially made to remove cutback from old floors. We had high hopes that we would be able to clean and restore the old floors. After experimenting with the product, trying other means, scraping, and pondering, we have decided to scrap the idea of trying to restore the old wood floors. It was just too much trouble and with some risk involved as to what we would be exposed to. We both did not like the idea of sanding old cutback (possibly more asbestos) and with the wood floors being also the sub floor, we feel it will be more insulated and make the house more secure if we replace the old floor with 3/4 inch plywood, cover with a moisture barrier, and then lay new wood flooring on top of that. Our sources of wise counsel have recommended this as well, so we are comfortably settled with the idea now.

Waylon spent most of the week hauling loads of wood that he had split, from his parents' new lot that they are clearing to build their new house on. He brought it here to our new place and stacked it in neat rows behind the shed. He has the largest collection of split wood that I think we've ever had. This means that we will soon be establishing an outdoor fire ring. When the weather permits, we will be having plenty of campfires. As a matter of fact, I think we are probably covered for the next five years... If it doesn't rot by then, that is.
Looking forward to cool weather and those fires already.

As of Tuesday, our home phone at the Soda house was officially disconnected. Currently the best way to reach us will be by contacting either of our cell phones, messaging my facebook, or either of our e-mails. If you don't have our cell or e-mails you can message me here or on facebook. We don't plan to have a land line here at the new house; will just be using cells and Internet to communicate.
